IRD have issued a new mileage rate to be used when reimbursing vehicle use. The new rate is 74 cents per km (down from 77 cents).
The new rate applies immediately to both petrol and diesel vehicles. It does not apply to motor cycles, hybrid and/or electric motor vehicles.
There are still the alternatives to using the above rate, which can be either using other published rates from reputable sources such as AA or calculating the actual running costs.

It was announced today that the adult minimum wages will increase by 50 cents an hour as from 1 April 2015.
This will mean the rate will go from $11.25 per hour to $11.75.
So remember to update any of your employees that are on an hourly rate less than $11.75 from 1 April.

I read this great post on the Xero blog about getting paid faster.
Check it out and if you are not invoicing via Xero, give us a call to have a chat about the benefits on invoicing on line
You see, as from 1 July 2015 the ACC levy component of vehicle registration is going down by an average of 41% depending on the type of vehicle.
So to take advantage of this, make sure you don’t pay more than necessary by opting for a shorter licensing renewal period. That way you are ready to take full advantage of the new lower price when your rego comes up for renewal after 1 July 2015.
There is a new tool out that the MBIE (Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment) have developed that allows you to calculate the estimated cost of a new employee.
It’s pretty cool and allows you to put in fixed costs, discretionary costs, select your industry type to calculate ACC levies, factors in Kiwsaver and even allows you to check average industry pay rates collated from Trademe Jobs!!

Sometimes the transactions that come into Xero are not quite the same every time and you might be finding yourself having to always code the transaction. Well there is an easier way and its called Bank Rules … check out the help video here
… and it heralds in the change in the rules for payments to the IRD.
Just a reminder that any payments made to the IRD must be received by them by the due date .. not postmarked the due date. Therefore we encourage you to make your payments electronically to the IRD.
If you still want to continue to pay by cheque, here are some suggested tips:
1. Post date the cheque to the due date
2. Highlight the date (not foolproof as the cheque still maybe presented early)
3. Post the cheque and return at least 1 week before the due date as you shouldn’t rely on NZ Post. We have had situations where mail has taken a week to get to Wellington!!
